There are two types of computer programs: –

General purpose   Designed to meet a common need for more than one buyer. Word processors and spreadsheet programs are examples of this kind of software.

Bespoke   These are cusom built for a single client and include functionality designed to fit the client’s specific way of working.

Bespoke software is preferable for the following reasons

• Bespoke solutions are designed and built to meet your precise, individual needs.
• As such they are focussed on delivering the benefits you need, rather than the lowest common denominator to suit as many buyers as possible.
• Bespoke software is usually simpler to learn than off-the-shelf packages because it’s uncluttered by unnecessary features. Good bespoke solutions fit the user’s way of working.
• Bespoke software can be modified and enhanced as your business and requirements change over time.
• It can include interfaces to import and export data to your other systems, providing a complete and seamless computing environment for your organisation.
